Dancing
West Coast Swing
West Coast Swing is a partner dance built around improvisation — you never know exactly what your partner is going to do, so you learn to listen, respond, and find the groove together. That unpredictability is what hooked me.
I've been dancing since 2013. It started as a social thing and turned into something I think about a lot — the connection, the musicality, the way it forces you to be fully present with another person.
SF has a great scene. If you're curious about it, it's one of the most welcoming communities I've found in the city. Most venues have beginner lessons before the social dance — you can walk in knowing nothing and leave having had a great night.
Where I dance in SF
Studio 88 — regular social nights
Firehouse West — Sunday evenings
Various competitions and workshops throughout the year
